I think teaching young people about science and inspiring them to follow science is really important. Also it’s lots of fun getting to know you all!

hmmm, it’s very hard to give up work. I think that helping younger people think about climate change and their future is very important too. You’re the ones that will make our future inventions and help tackle climate change. You’re our future employees at our work too.

Good question – because I wanted to see what types of question you might ask and if I could answer them

Great question! The main reason for me is that I wanted to chat to young people and tell them all about why science and scientific research is interesting and important- and hopefully all the students (including you!) who i’ve spoken to have found something interesting out of the whole I’m a Scientist event! This will hopefully mean that we have new excited scientists coming up through schools and into universities and into industry which is really important.
It’s also really helpful for me to practice explaining my research to lots of different people so that I can make sure that my research doesn’t just sit in a dusty cupboard somewhere with nobody finding out about it.

i really enjoy telling others what i do, but to inspire the next generation of scientists and to help those who may never have met a scientist or had anyone in their family go to uni. its really important to widen access and for this to happen we all have a responsibility to inspire younger people! we all got inspired by someone once, so we should definitely do the same.
