Ooh difficult question. If all fossil fuels stopped right now, the world wouldn’t survive… farms couldn’t produce food for us and animals, people couldn’t drive to work or heat our homes, most of the electricity we produce couldn’t be generated and we would have rolling blackouts and worst of all the internet uses a huge amount of energy and could stop working!
Part of my job is to stop our reliance on fossil fuels. Part of this is making sure renewable energy is cheap, reliable and installed instead of coal and gas. Part of it also needs to be making our transport electric and to make our heating renewable. This will take time though and we won’t see anything like we need to until at least 2030!

At the moment, no. We need fossil fuels to provide the energy to heat our homes, get to work by transport, construct buildings and produce food and water. Some countries could cope at the moment, but in the United Kingdom we really need to do a lot more to generate more renewable energy and to create new machines to use these new sources of energy.

As Stephanie and Chris have said- at the moment the world couldn’t survive. However, there is definitely the potential for it to be able to, but we need to develop renewable energies a lot more first. This could be wave, hydroelectric, solar, wind… there are many different kinds of renewable energies that we can and should be working on to make them more efficient so that we can survive without fossil fuels in the future.

I am afraid there is no may about it. The world is most definitely going to have to survive without fossil fuels – the future jobs and opportunities are going to be in the development of alternative renewable energy sources. Your futures is in all your young hands

Yes – absolutely it could do more than survive, it could thrive. And will have to in the future. As they run out we will invest more in new forms of energy, finally!
