i think part of it is my plankon are beautiful, and can tell us so much about the history of the oceans. but also i like finding out new stuff everyday.
i think if i could change it, i would make sure that there was a better work/life balance. sometimes science really can take over your life and you forget theres a world outside of the office/lab!
I love my job because it gives me the opportunity to keep learning new things all the time. I really like learning new things and using my brain! I really enjoy doing experiments, and being in science means that you often get to work with other really interesting scientists which is great!
In terms of my subject specifically, I think that any climate change research is really important, I love fungi (I just think they are really interesting) and the big experiment I am working on (the Free Air Carbon Enrichment experiment at Birmingham Institute of Forest Research) is just such a cool idea- basically its quite exciting!
I think I wouldn’t change my job overall, I love being a scientist, but as Rehemat said, it would be great if there were a few changes! Universities can be quite a stressful place to work and there is pressure to be working all the time- this is difficult sometimes, but I try to make sure that I don’t work all the time because nobody can do that, its not healthy!
Yes. I love doing things that can change the world – like reducing the impact of climate change on farming to make sure we all get plenty of good food. Working toward a big challenge is something I really find satisfying, and I would change my science job for the world.
