The scientist who inspires me the most is Ada Lovelace. She helped invent the first ever computing machine over 200 years ago! Not only was she not given the credit because she was a woman, but she also made the first ever algorithm which was more than just computing simple maths problems!
She was brought up by a single mum, in a society that favoured men. She loved maths and physics and was super smart. She is often overlooked in the science books but she was very influential and make some important discoveries!
Currently I’m inspired the most by Professor Lynne Boddy. She has done some pretty pioneering work in fungal research, and she also does lots of science communication, so she’s pretty inspirational to me!
probably professor ellen thomas at yale. shes always so enthusiastic about what she does and really did inspire me when i saw her do a talk at my university.
also professor athene donald, as she campaigns heavily for women in academia.
Lots of scientists inspire me in my area of work. Emily Schuckburgh, a great scientist working at the British Antarctic Survey. Helen Czerski, a great physicist. Also Sir Professor Brian Cox for his enthusiasm about science.
Charles Darwin had a big impact no only from his work on Origin of Species but also the observations he made on earth worms and how they moved chalk through the soil after it had been spread on the surface
