Burning fossil fuels is the major problem, but this has been done in lots of different ways. I don’t know the exact numbers, but I expect that the biggest contributors are power stations, industry (factories) and then transport like cars, larger vehicles like lorries, and planes.

There are lots of different types of pollution, some are natural and others are produced by human activities. Atmospheric pollution from gases and particles are released from burning fuels, forest fires and volcanos. We are the main cause of atmospheric pollution, but there is a large amount released also from natural causes. Water pollution from farm chemicals, ships, plastics, toxic plants, nuclear radiation and liquids that enter the water from factories. This is almost all from humans. Soil pollution from chemicals used to improve soil nutrition and acid rain. Again, this is also a result of human activity.

This has been answered really well by the other scientists but also the main causes are very different depending on which country or city you are in. The main cause of pollution in London for example is all the exhausts from cars, where as in other cities like Sheffield it’s from the big industrial factories and power stations. In lots of places there is a big problem of plastic pollution where plastics are clogging up waterways and filling up landfill. Unfortunately almost all different types of pollution are mostly caused by humans 🙁
