according the planetary scientists this will happen sometime way in the future – not our life times or those of our children, their children and their children …… Climate change here and now is the worry
I think so, yes! But as Stephen said, this is a very long way off, and humans have lots of other problems we definitely need to be thinking about (and doing something about!) before then! The likelihood is that humans will have died out long before the sun explodes (isn’t that a weird thought!)
Before the sun dies out, what will happen is all the hydrogen being burnt by the sun will run out, and it will start burning helium instead. At this time (in about 5 billion years), the Sun will become a Red Giant (like Betelguese, Orion’s top left star). When this happens, the Sun will become so big that it will reach all the way out to past earth! So in 5 billion years time, whatever life looks like on earth might be a less worried about global warming and more worried about global burning!
